Ludwig No. 948 Classic 14x14" Floor Tom with Keystone Badge 1960 - 1968 - champagne sparkle

I'm selling a mid 1960’s 14”x14” Ludwig floor tom. It's in champagne sparkle. I'm going to attempt to describe it in great detail. This drum lived a great number of years in coastal Florida garages and it shows. I'm the second owner. There were literally surf boards next to it when I bought it. That said, the drum wasn't tossed around, just weathered. The chrome is in bad shape. It's pitted and flaky. There are dark spots on the chrome. I'm guessing the humid coastal salt air was not kind to the chrome. So, there's kind of rot and delamination happening in the plies on the bearing edges. That said, they are flat and the drum is in round. It actually sounds like what it is... A Mid 1960's Ludwig floor tom.

I'd list it as good condition but I went with fair condition for the following reason. I tend to tune higher and it sounds great. I think lower tunings might not be as good, but I have gotten nice sounds in lower tunings as well. But I want to be completely transparent. Top heads go on easy. The drum lived for years with no bottom hoop or head. So the bottom head goes on tight.

Floor tom brackets work fine

These are the older types that tend to strip out. They are functioning now, but I would caution against over tightening the wingnut screws . I believe the legs are original.

I used an aftermarket hoop/rim on the bottom but I am only selling it with the original top rim, and none on the bottom.

Red felt muffler comes loose easily but is in tact. All tension rods spin free in the lugs.

The finish has fade to it. Yet It also seems darker, almost peach in color. There's a dark spot near the seam and another near the bearing edge. There really aren't a lot of scratches. I don't think this drum was gigged at all, it's just been in humid environments for many years.

The original owner did something unforgivable lol. 

He mounted a plate from a MIJ drum kit right next to the badge. I took it off, but you can see the fade in the spot where it was mounted. Those mounting holes are small too. I think he did this and immediately abandoned the idea of using it. Anyway, see the pictures of what I am talking about. 

If it was in better condition, the price would be much higher.
