A beautiful gold-plated Elkhart Band Instrument Co. Tenor Saxophone, with a deluxe Conn portrait-style engraving that extends down the bow and up the body of the saxophone. There is some debate about the manufacturing history of these horns (see ), but it is very likely that they were Martin-built. In any case, not to be mistaken for the later student-line “Elkhart by Buescher” saxophones. The serial number (57k) puts this one around 1927, according to .
I picked this tenor up recently and unfortunately underestimated the amount of work that will be required to get it playing again. So I am listing it as-is, in need of restoration. Everything is there, and the horn is structurally okay, but there are at least two tone holes that will need to be resoldered. This seems to have been the result of a bell brace impact, which also left a small dent in the body of the saxophone.
Open to offers/trades, so feel free to get in touch if you are interested. And if you happen to know something about EBIC history, I would also be very happy to hear from you.
