Vintage material is not only characterized by the age of a fabric but by its unusual treatment as well. This vintage plisse' cotton artisan handmade guitar strap is just such an example of vintage at its unique best. The front fabric is plisse' cotton woven into a linear design, not quite checkered and not quite plaid, in threads of blue, red, orange, and cream. The back lining of the guitar strap is a rich, lush but unobtrusive pink champagne Duchess satin, and the pin tabs are double thick hand punched and hand stitched top quality black Brazilian textured leather. A simply remarkable guitar strap that will set you apart from the crowd.

Plisse' is a creased or gathered fabric that has been puckered or pleated through some kind of chemical treatment. It originated in Egypt, where the fabric was puckered using raw eggs, then creased with a wooden dowel with narrow grooves. In the modern era, the puckering was accomplished using sodium hydroxide, which was carefully applied in strips, causing the material to shrink where it was applied. Plisse' fell out of fashion in part because it was costly to produce so when I found this swath of vintage plisse' cotton it was like Christmas to me! I just really hope you like it since it is a most unusual material.
