Micro Seiki BL-101 w/ SAEC WE-407/23:
A superb Japanese-made "Golden Era" belt-drive turntable!
The Micro Seiki BL-101, released in Japan in 1982 during the Japanese "Golden Era" of high-fidelity audio equipment, is an extremely well-regarded vintage turntable. Micro Seiki has acquired a great reputation over the years for its high-quality turntables, and this BL-101 is no exception. Unlike many Japanese turntables of the era, the BL-101 operates with a belt-drive system. It has some excellent features, such as an advanced vibration detection and elimination system (structural dynamic analyzer). The turntable part features a double-turntable structure with a main 305-mm aluminum turntable mounted on a 180-mm zinc turntable. The mounting faces are flat with a high degree of machining precision, and the double structure increased rotational inertia, improving sound. It is a highly precise unit, with a solid build quality. Overall, The BL-101 is a superb turntable with exceptional mechanical engineering and incredible sound.
The SAEC WE-407/23, released in 1980, is a highly-regarded tonearm featuring a small double-knife edge. This features a bearing system of zero diameter and zero resistance. The WE-407/23 production processing is extremely accurate, to about +/- 2 micrometers. SEAC’s high-precision processing is enabled partially by hand-processing craftsmanship. This tonearm also features designs to reduce low-frequency resonances without sacrificing its motion. There are further engineering triumphs in this tonearm, and overall it remains highly sought after, even 40+ years after its release.
This unit is in excellent condition overall (please see pictures), with some signs of age and use, including some scratches throughout and rust on the metal part of the tonearm. Furthermore, it has been thoroughly checked and tested by our professional technician, confirming its flawless operation. The 33 and 45 settings both work perfectly, and the platter rotation is like clockwork, as expected from Japanese products of this era, which were built for a lifetime of operation.
