CSL Maccaferri -"The Gypsy" (MAC 12 - Prototype ) 1984

CSL  – Maccaferri ‘The Gypsy’  CSL- MAC 12 OSH (Prototype) c1984

This guitar is an amazing piece of Gypsy jazz history, a very rare Maccaferri  ‘The Gypsy” MAC12 OSH model made in Spain by Manuel Rodriguez for CSL guitars.

It features an updated version of the classic Maccaferri Petit Bouche guitar:

-12 fret neck
-16" body
-660mm scale

This particular Petit Bouche instrument appears to have been a 'Prototype'  that never went into production as it is fitted with Ibanez/Gotoh parts and is not shown in any CSL by Manuel Rodriguez catalogue, which featured only 6 models. 

Some of the unique features of this Petit Bouche MAC12 OSH model include:

Spruce top,
Laminate  Rosewood back and sides,
Mahogany neck,
Ebony fretboard,
Gotoh (Lyra style) tuners,

Ibanez tailpiece,
Large 16" body (originals were 15 3/4"

Some of its unique features; -

1) The scale length was increased to 660mm. Earlier models had a 640mm scale.

2) The top is a conventional two piece top; the earlier models had a four piece quartered top.

3) There is a zero fret (the earlier models had no zero fret.)

This guitar has one of the rarest configurations for a Gypsy guitar: a 12 fret neck with a long 660mm scale. This combination of features when coupled with the recently fitted Savarez Argentine strings results in sound, which is very full and lush for chords, but also quite snappy for lead lines.
