so i received this in pretty rough shape. somebody had attempted a refinish with house paint after a terrible job stripping it (looked like they did it with a garden rake or wood rasp or something), including painting the pickguard and bridge. so i completely disassembled it, stripped the body and sanded it smooth, finished it black (as there was some black original paint underneath the pickguard) with analine dye and waterbased polyurethane, hand sanded, buffed, polished. i all the chrome, rewired the controls with bourns pots, an orange drop tone cap, and a switchcraft jack. the bridge was beyond help and missing one of original saddles so i purchased a new Wilkinson bridge with brass saddles
anything I've removed (wiring harness, bridge, pickup covers) will be included. the volume and tone knobs are not original, but look close. the condition is not perfect. there is some wear on the fretboard, there are parts of the body that are black but not totally opaque, the ibanez logo on the headstock isn't totally there. as this was finished by hand, there are swirlies on the body. this is a 35 year old bass that was definitely played a lot, so taking that into account it is in great shape. whoever owned it before definitely subscribed to the philosophy that "there's no money above the 5th fret," so there is more fret wear there
this is being sold AS IS no returns as this is a 35 year old instrument. if you want something brand new, buy a 2020 p bass. if you want something that a lot of love was put into, plays and sounds great, this is for you
i will be shipping this with the neck detached and strings in some sort of packaging. buyer will have to attach the neck to the body using the original neck plate and 4 screws that i will wrap separately. i want something this lovely getting broken in transit so if you're not up for putting the neck on (or having somebody do it for you), then this is not the listing for you

that was a lot of words. thanks for reading. I'm not really that much of a jerk, i just want to make sure you (the buyer) have your expectations met

relisting as of 8/23/2020: I've played this bass a ton over the past six months and loved it so much i sold the fender I'd been playing/modding for ten years. there's something about a passive p bass that just *works*
but i got a good deal on a fender bass vi and the other 4 string ibanez roadstar ii I've had since i was a kid so might as well throw this back into the wild. barely played set of ghs medium bass boomers on it
I've recorded a bunch with this and it definitely just sits where it needs to in the mix. i might end up regretting letting this to but something like this deserves to be played
