VIG / VGS Eruption
Unfortunately, the VIG / VGS company is no longer existing, even though the company produced qualitatively very good and partly quite innovative instruments.
The VIG eruption offered here is - obviously - a kind of slightly modernized, excellent sounding Les Paul.
Short Gibson scale
Maple neck, 42 mm nut width
Basswood Body
Platinum (matt chrome) hardware
EMG-HZ pickups (SA-1: 7,3 kOhm, TB-1: 16,9kOhm)
Satin matt black finish
Cream-colored bindings
2 x volume, 1 x tone
Perfectly processed, for the age (about 10 years) also good, used condition, only 2 small scratches on the lower edge backside, which are however not visible from the front (see photos).
On the one hand the Eruption produces a typical Les Paul set-neck sound, but in this case not a too midrange-based, too fat sound, but a little more transparent, more sparkling, fresher version of a Les Paul sound. (I also owned another eruption with identical construction, which sounded much fatter in comparison, but also sounded less vivid in the treble range.)
This impression is reinforced by the EMG-HZ pickups used, the SA-1 (comparable with the current H2A) is almost the EMG version of an Alnico PAF, but sounds EMG-typically a bit more open, more transparent, which sound very well in the neck position. The TB-1 is similar to the current H4, so it's a high-gain ceramic humbucker, sonically more or less the passive version of the EMG 81, which means intense, but also very tight basses, rather slim mids and extremely intense, very present highs, which nevertheless do not sound shrill.
The bridge pickup therefore is a good choice for any kinds of metal and shredding, probably even more for donw or dropped tunings, but less suitable for blues rock or only slightly overdriven vintage sounds. If the highs are too present, you can soften the sound by screwing down the pickup or by using volume and tone controls, which results in a more balanced tone.
As different as the two pickups are designed, they perfectly complement each other in the intermediate position, which sounds very fresh and lively, good for any kind of rhythm work. Also the two separate volume controls allow some more, easily adjustable sounds, by turning back one of the controls, the other pickup starts to dominate the combined sound, but still sounds different than only this pickup alone, so you can adjust the combined position additionally for a warmer or more biting sound.
The satin matt surface also provides a pleasant grip on the neck.
The eruption comes in a slightly padded Gewa Gigbag with neck rest, which has some signs of use, but still works well.
Private sale as is, so no warranty or refunding will be granted.
