1989 Greco SG-700 Custom Mint Collection Vintage Guitar SG w/ Firebird Pickups & Gibson Hardcase

Up for sale, a 1989 Greco SG-700 Custom in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. From Greco's famed Mint Collection, this SG was issued only in '89 and in very limited quantities, making it one of the most unique and sought after Greco guitars. Featuring three Firebird-style humbuckers, this guitar takes great care to nail a vintage Firebird sound, with plenty of top end cut and chime. The solid mahogany body and set neck construction adds to the warmth and smooth midrange qualities of the pickups, and this is just about the only guitar to marry the electronics of a Firebird VII with the good looks of an SG! The guitar weighs only 6lbs 7oz, balances well on a strap, and has a clear, cutting acoustic voice. Manufactured in Japan at the FujiGen factory, this guitar comes at the tail end of Greco's golden era of guitar production, commonly referred to as the "lawsuit era," although there was never any legal action taken against Greco for their designs. This Greco SG-700 Custom has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, and is currently strung with Thomastik Power Bright 11-46 strings, boasting low action and solid intonation.

The neck has a fairly slender C profile with gently sloping shoulders and just enough depth to not feel too thin. The bound rosewood fretboard boasts original medium jumbo frets which show only extremely faint wear beneath the plain strings down at the nut, and virtually no wear up the neck. The fret crowns are well rounded and the frets have decades of height and life left, with no buzzing or dead spots and consistent, low action in the higher registers of the fretboard. The scale length and nut width match traditional Gibson specifications, measuring 1 11/16" wide at the nut with a full 24 3/4" scale. The headstock has the classic "open book" Gibson shape, with the Greco logo is inlayed in pearloid and a set of original gold Greco tuning machines. The tuners look just like vintage Klusons, with lightly greened tulip buttons, and a very reliable and smooth gear ratio.

All of the electronics work as they should and are untouched from the factory, with dual Volume and Tone knobs coupled to a three-way pickup selector switch. In the Treble position, the bridge pickup is active, in the Middle, both the bridge and middle pickups are engaged, and in the Rhythm position just the neck pickup is engaged. All of the original hardware is intact, including the Greco ABR-1 style bridge that matches its Gibson equivalent right down to the text on the bottom and retainer wire. The gold plating is in fantastic shape, with only light patina on the stopbar and bridge saddles. The rest of the plastic parts are stock as well, including the batwing pickguard, speed knobs, and amber switch tip.

Cosmetically, this guitar has been extremely well cared for since it was new, with barely a scratch on it, and only a couple light dings on the back of the guitar, smaller than the lead tip on a finely sharpened pencil. There is zero buckle rash, and the instrument sports its original gloss black finish that shows no touchups or overspray. This Greco is remarkably clean and a unique instrument for any collection or gigging arsenal.

A brown Gibson hardshell case with pink plush interior is included. The case shows plenty of wear on the exterior, but is structurally sound and provides ample protection for the SG.
