Polyend Play is a great sample-based groovebox that offers eight tracks of audio sequencing and eight tracks of MIDI sequencing—so why's our video titled "How I Learned To Love the Polyend Play"?
Well, that's because there are several things it can't accomplish: It doesn't have a synth engine or sound design tools like envelopes or LFOs, and it doesn't sample directly or slice and time-stretch loops.
However, that's not what the Play's about, and once you lean into its features, you'll realize just how much it does have to offer. There's a wealth of generative and randomization sequencing options, making it one of the most immediate grooveboxes available, and a great tool for live performance.
The unique Fills feature allows you to choose from a diverse number of grooves based on genre style—and then build on it by adding or removing notes. Grooves can be further spiced up by utilizing all of the randomization, chance, and note repeat settings.
The fantastic performance effects section, which may be a source of expression in and of itself, is our host Fess' favorite feature and has altered his perspective on the Play.
Watch as Fess explains all of what he has come to appreciate and seemingly can't live without with the Polyend Play.
