Earl Slick, legendary guitarist and former David Bowie sideman, recently partnered with boutique Chicago effects brand Daredevil Pedals for a brand new noisebox called the Daishō Fuzz released earlier this week.
As a nod to its namesake ("daishō" is a Japanese word referring to a matched pair of samurai swords), the Daishō is a hybrid octave/fuzz pedal, featuring two circuits that can be stacked or used independently. Control-wise, the pedal keeps it relatively simple, with three knobs for volume, depth, and fuzz. The pedal also features a noise gate between the circuits, which can help cut noise at high-gain settings with the octave circuit engaged.
Each Daishō fuzz is hand-wired in Chicago by Daredevil's Johnny Wator and packed into a chassis with featuring Kanji artwork taken from Slick's own tattoo and developed by local artist Casey Von Sass.
