Call it a case of second-hand news: this week's Find of the Week is a 1962 Silvertone Speed Demon that was formerly owned by Fleetwood Mac founder and British blues legend Peter Green.
Long before the band's pop rock reinvention in California, Green formed Fleetwood Mac in London in 1967 alongside guitarist Jeremy Spencer and drummer Mick Fleetwood. They spent their early years as a blues band, earning a UK number one with the lush instrumental "Albatross". He went on to write "Black Magic Woman"—which would later become a single for Santana—before exiting the band in 1970. With a signature sound with plenty of vibrato and bending, Green's innovation as a blues player led him to be ranked on the Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".
Earlier this summer, art and antique auction house Bonhams hosted Man Of The World: The Peter Green Collection which saw the sale of more than 150 guitars, amps, pedals and other equipment that Green amassed throughout his career. Among the highlighted items were a National resonator, a Gretsch White Falcon, and the Silvertone Speed Demon listed here.
Green's Speed Demon comes equipped with a single-cut bound and hollow maple body with a natural finish, three pickups, three volume and two tone controls and a Brazilian rosewood bridge. It ships in a hard case and comes with a certificate of authenticity from the Bonham's auction.
