Paiste Adds Several 602 Cymbals to Its Formula 602 Reissue Lineup | NAMM 2020

Fans of both new and vintage Paiste should be stoked about the brand's latest new product announcement for 2020. Just in time for the NAMM show out in Anaheim, Paiste announced that it would be adding to its line of 602 reissue cymbals with a slew of popular, highly sought-after 602 cymbals across a variety of sizes.

Paiste's original Formula 602 line was kicked off in 1959 and has since become one of the world's most revered in the history of cymbal-making.

Jazz and rock drummers adopted the Formula 602 cymbals in the '60s, and their popularity carried over into the 1970s, when it was common to find players using a mix of Formula 602 and 2002 cymbals.

14" or 15" Heavy Hi-Hat
15” Sound Edge Hi-Hat

But after the success of Paiste's Signature Series, which debuted in the '80s, the brand stopped manufacturing Formula 602 models in the '90s.

In 2011, Paiste announced that it was bringing the Formula 602 series back, and over the past few years, these cymbals have become beloved by players across all genres. This year, Paiste is further investing in the series by adding a whole bunch of newly reissued 602 models to its popular library.

20" Paperthin Crash
17" or 19" Thin Crashes
13” Heavy Bell

Included in this new batch of reissues are two new hi-hats—the Heavy, which comes in 14" or 15" and promises players a sharp, articulate, classic Paiste sound, and the 15" Sound Edge, which features a wavy bottom cymbal that gives it softness, rich low-end, and finesse.

Ride-wise, players can choose a full, strong medium-heavy cymbal in any size from 16 to 20 inches or a 16-, 18-, or 20-inch heavy ride if they're looking for more volume and assertiveness. Players loving ultra-thin cymbals will also be excited, as now there's both 17- or 19-inch thin crashes and a 20-inch paperthin crash to choose from.

16”, 17”, 18”, 19” & 20” Medium
16”, 18” & 20” Heavy

Finally, Paiste added a crystal-clear 13-inch Heavy Bell effect cymbal, promising a bright and piercing ping that will cut through any mix and sustain almost endlessly.
