A new shape-shifting granular effects module wants to add some doom to your ambient soundscapes.
Noise Engineering has announced Melotus Versio, a 10-HP stereo effects module that uses granular processing to texturize and transform sound.
The Melotus, priced at USD 350, is designed to be played independently or by processing incoming audio. Clock the grain delay for rhythmic effects or create layers of textures that completely alter the original sound.
Described by Noise Engineering's Kris Kaiser as "granular for the Doombient generation," the filter—a lowpass/highpass combination—adds a sort of dark character to the incoming audio and is great for generating subharmonic frequencies.
This module is the latest edition of the company’s World of Versio, a series of effect processing modules including the Desmodus Versio stereo reverb and the Imitor Versio stereo delay. Each module is open-source and has interchangeable firmware, encouraging DIY customization.
