On Monday evening, Logitech announced plans to acquire Blue Microphones for a reported $117 million USD.
Though most-known as a computer accessory manufacturer, Logitech already owns a variety of subsidiaries in the audio world, specifically headphone-focused brands like Jaybird, Ultimate Ears, and ASTRO Gaming. Blue Microphones will fit well into Logitech's existing portfolio as a brand making mics popular with YouTubers, podcasters, and other streaming-based musicians and creators.
A statement posted to Blue's website reads, "We have a lot in common with Logitech. Our products are all about the marriage of great design and stellar performance, and so are theirs. We both have strong brands in the gaming market. We make the most popular streaming mic, they make the most popular streaming cam. And we both want to put excellent, high-performance gear on every desktop."
Cognizant that this isn't the company's first acquisition since its founding in 1995, (Blue was purchased by private equity firms Transom Capital in 2008 and The Riverside Company in 2013), Blue CEO John Maier promises existing customers that the brand won't change. "So here’s the deal: all of us here at Blue will keep creating cool stuff for professional musicians, gamers, podcasters, YouTubers, and streamers; Logitech will help us conquer the world."
He also teased "some great new products in development," urging us all to stay tuned for what's to come.
