This week's Find of the Week is one of the strangest guitars Fender ever made: it's a 1993 Fender Terry-1 Anniversary guitar. With a look somewhere between a Tele, a Danelectro, and a Mosrite, this distinctive rare order custom model was produced by Fender Japan between 1992 and 1993 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the band Blue Jeans, led by Japanese surf rock legend Takeshi Terauchi.
While guitarists like Dick Dale and Link Wray were making tidal waves of tremolo in 1960s America, Takeshi Teruachi had a hand in popularizing the electric guitar in the context of Japan's youth culture. Combining the traditional sounds of Japanese folk music with the burgeoning rock music coming from the other side of the Pacific, his sound was marked by rapid-fire picking speeds and a copious amount of whammy bar.
Produced at the FujiGen factory, the Terry-1 guitar comes equipped with a basswood body and a maple neck, a proprietary roller bridge vibrato system, custom pickups with a push-push coil tap, and some wavy fretboard inlays. According to the seller, the guitar is in excellent condition and the factory plastic is still present on the pickguard and pickups.
The guitar comes with its original case and all its original paperwork, and is listed at $3,999. Be sure to check out the full listing for more photos and information, and buy this freaky Fender rarity today.
