The Super Electric Suzztone is a re-creation of the Maestro FZ-1S Fuzz-Tone silicon fuzz from the 70s (sometimes referred to as the Maestro Super-Fuzz).
Perhaps the most under-rated fuzz in the Maestro Fuzz-Tone family, it's quite a versatile fuzz with some useful features. The three controls include Volume, Sustain and Balance, which is a blend control to pan between the fuzz tone and a clean sound, which may be useful to bassists.
The slider switch found on the original FZ-1S has been built as an extra footswitch here, which selects one of two tone settings (bright or dark) both of which provide a nice rich musical fuzz. A dual colour LED indicates which tone setting is engaged.
Like the original, it uses five silicon transistors (2 of which are used for clipping), carefully selected to bias well using the stock circuit with low noise. The only changes made from the original circuit are the treble capacitors which slightly tames the treble of the bright tone setting, for a more usable sound than the drastically trebly sound of the original. The volume drop of one of the tone settings in the original units has also been corrected without any change in the tone.
Features:
* Volume, Sustain and Balance (blend) controls
* Extra footswitch for tone setting selection
* Dual colour LED (red/green)
* Six selected silicon transistors (5x 2N5088, BC337)
* Powered by 9v negative-center power supply or 9v battery (not included)
* Switchcraft (US) jacks
* True-bypass switching
* Smooth black powdercoat finish
* Pedal size is 120x95mm
The pedal comes with an instruction sheet and a 3 year warranty. Each one is hand-signed with a serial number and packed in a white cardboard box.
Shipping is through registered post/signed-for delivery with a tracking number.
