What to Consider When Buying a JHS Pedal
Version
While it’s less of a concern with more recent offerings like the Clover Preamp or Muffuletta Fuzz, longer-running models have gone through a number of iterations. Old guard names like the Charlie Brown and even relatively new faces like the SuperBolt can have up to four versions with differences ranging from soft or hard switching to completely different circuits for altered flavors.
Big-Box vs. Standard Size
Compact renditions of bulkier models from the company’s past also make frequent appearances. For example: The JHS Panther started out as the company’s big-box, do-it-all delay and was then followed by the Panther Cub and Pink Panther versions.
Combination Pedals
A common enough feature to be assumed one of Scott’s passions, JHS makes a fixture out of combining two of their effects (usually overdrives) in one chassis. The result is a wider range of flavors for the grit connoisseur. For examples, see the Double Barrel (Moonshine and Morning Glory) or Sweet Tea (Moonshine and Angry Charlie).
