9 Times Mister Rogers Taught Music to His Neighborhood

This month, a highly anticipated biopic of Mister Rogers, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, will hit theaters. The movie highlights a specific period in which a cynical journalist is assigned to write about everyone's favorite children's TV show host, but becoming a friend (and, presumably, a better person) along the way.

In all the many heartwarming lessons Mister Rogers imparted on young viewers, their parents, and stray journalists throughout the life of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and its 895 episodes, there were more than a few related to music-making. He showed off a synthesizer, played a glass armonica, and cut a record right in his living room. He even had pioneering synth-head Bruce Haack on the show to play a homemade suitcase synth, or a "musical computer" as Rogers called it.
