Video: Paul Gilbert Shows Off 5 Favorites From His Guitar Collection

Paul Gilbert is a well-known shredder in the hard rock and metal community, making his name as a member of Racer X and then a co-founder of the hard rock supergroup Mr. Big back in 1988.

Touring with that band and through his future projects, Gilbert became a steadfast fan of the Ibanez Iceman—an oddball body shape that attracted players Gilbert admired, like Paul Stanley of KISS and Cheap Trick's Rick Neilson.

That's why when Ibanez and Gilbert partnered to make his own Paul Gilbert signature model, the result was a spiritual sibling to the Iceman that eventually became known as the Fireman. The Fireman clearly draws inspiration from the Iceman body shape, but changes lots of things up, like reversing the cutaway and adding a larger neck.

In the video above, Paul Gilbert is walking us through five of his favorite Fireman signature models, all with some particularly special distinguishing features that makes them stand out from the rest of his collection. Check it out above, and pick up your own Fireman on Reverb right now.

Also, in case you missed it, Paul Gilbert recently partnered with JHS to release a new distortion pedal, the PG-14, released at NAMM 2020. Click below to see our video from the NAMM floor.
