Video: Fender Tone Master Deluxe vs. Original Tube Amp—Can You Hear the Difference?

Back at Summer NAMM, Fender unveiled its new Tone Master amps—the Tone Master Deluxe Reverb and Tone Master Twin Reverb. Both come in at about half the weight of their tube-based equivalents.

Instead of the traditional models' all-tube circuitry, these new amps use DSP technology and Class D power amps to deliver what Fender calls "virtually indistinguishable" sound and performance from the well-loved tube amps of yesteryear. We decided to put that notion to the test.

In the video above, Andy Martin plays, at various times, the new Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb and his trusty '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue in a blind shootout. Can you hear the difference?

Listen for yourself. At the end of the video, Andy reveals which is which. To learn more about the amps, head over to our previous article here. Find both the Tone Master Deluxe Reverb and Tone Master Twin Reverb on Reverb today.
