Vintage 1960 1961 Gibson SG Les Paul Standard Original Guitar *Players Grade*
Yes, you read it right - 1960. This one is one of the earliest Les Paul guitars that succeeded the ‘Bursts’ when they switched to what we know as the SG. A few were made in 1960, before the first full year of the ‘New’ Standard in 1961. This one has an inked serial 0 8877. These guitars are legendary and fetch stupid money. You would have seen all the ones for sale right now for over £30K (?!) but this one is quite literally only a fraction (1/5th) of what they normally fetch at £5995. Reasons below!
I found this in Denmark, where it had been for decades since being carried over from the USA on a trip. The guitar had suffered the usual heel break in the USA early on and as a result had been stripped of the majority of the parts including the original PAF pickups, machine heads, sideways bridge and electrics. It was then left as it is for many many years before being rescued. The guitar then underwent a solid restoration on the heel with epoxy resin - not the cleanest looking but absolutely solid! When the owner realised how nice a guitar it was, he had it refretted (around 5 years ago), fitted a pair of Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups with push pull electrics, and an added stop tail bridge.
In short, it’s one of the earliest Gibson *SGs* out there, and a proper players grade example! It’s an honest guitar as you can see - and it sounds superb. I’m happy to answer all questions, take more photos, listen to offers, and send anywhere in the world - don’t miss out!
