Here is a very special guitar from Gibson's exclusive Master Museum collection. It is an SJ-200 hand-built by Ren Ferguson himself. This guitar is number 22 of the Master Museum series.
As you know, Ren is one of the world's best master luthiers. This fine example of his work is a true testament to his mastery of the craft of building guitars.
The guitar's theme is the history of the Gibson Guitar Company. The fretboard, headstock, bridge, and pickguard feature different products and motifs throughout Gibson's storied history.
The fretboard features the instruments themselves. From the early Gibson harp guitar at the first fret, all the way through the Gibson Les Paul, SG, and Flying V at the 20th fret. The bridge features inlaid children's toys. The reason for this is that Gibson had to change some of its production to toys during the Great Depression in order to survive.
The headstock features the mighty SJ-200 itself. All of the inlays were hand-engraved by Ren himself. He is a master inlay artist as well.
The neck heel has been hand-carved by Ren as well. This is perhaps his greatest skill. You can see that he has spent many hours perfecting this craft. There are not many guitars out there with hand-carved heels.
The guitar features beautifully-figured Madagascar rosewood back and sides, a Sitka spruce top, ebony fretboard, ebony headstock veneer, and an ebony bridge.
Abalone purfling adorns every surface of the guitar, including the top, back, sides, headstock, and even the fretboard.
Ren inlaid his signature on the neck block of the guitar.
The guitar is in excellent condition, showing no signs of play wear.
Included with the guitar is the original hardshell case and all original paperwork.
