1964 Ampeg B-12-XY Fliptop Portaflex Vintage 1x12 Tube Amplifier Jensen C12N

Up for sale, a 1964 Ampeg B-12-XY in excellent condition and in perfect working order. One of the physically larger and complex designs in the Portaflex series, the B-12-XY features both vibrato and reverb through a ported cabinet outfitted with a Jensen 12" C12N speaker and an additional horn. Stocked with a complete set of NOS tubes and powered by a matched pair of 7027As, the B-12-XY delivers a tone that has warmth, clarity and the rich overdrive characteristics commonly associated with Ampeg's best designs.  The size of the cabinet adds extra low end fullness and the horn keeps the top end articulate and glassy.  The vibrato (not tremolo like most amps), has a deep, warbling pulse with a swirling, leslie-like effect that is extremely lush.  The reverb utilizes the original Accutronics two-spring tank, and curiously enough, is designed to only operate via an satellite cabinet, although the effect has been tested and sounds great.
The circuit is 100% stock, and the turret board design is clean and true to how the amp left the factory, with original transformers and CTS pots that date to mid 1964.  The chassis looks incredible with clean chrome plating that still retains virtually all of the original chrome lettering.  Central to the face of the amp, the lucite, light up "Ampeg" logo is present, and this particular etched lucite block is a modern reproduction from fliptops.net.  Inside the cabinet, the original tube chart is clean and intact, and the original Jensen C12N is a rare and desirable speaker for this model; a perfect choice for hi-fi top end and low end focus.
Cosmetically, the original blue checkered covering and silver grillcloth are intact, showing light scuffs and modest wear around the edges of the cabinet from the past 50+ years.  The original chrome side handles are present and clean, and the stock blue leather handle on the center of the cab shows wear, but still works.  There is some wear on the upper third of the grillcloth and the raised Ampeg logo is missing part of the "M" as well.  Overall, this amp is clean and complete, even retaining the stock screw-in dolly and casters.
