Cimar (~Ibanez/Hoshino) SG-style guitar - made in Japan - pre-lawsuit

Welcome to another fine guitar from The Old Europe! Please make sure to read the entire description below carefully, and look at all the pictures.

General introduction and background:

Very nice and rare Cimar SG-style guitar. Made in Japan in the early or mid 1970s; it has an “open book”- headstock, hence must have been made pre-1977 (and Cimar models of later years have a completely different headstock). Cimar was a sub-brand of Hoshino Gakki, owners of the famous Ibanez brand. Cimar guitars of the 1970s in general were made by Chushin Gakki, whereas Ibanez guitars were made at Fujigen. Not sure when it comes to this specimen though.

The guitar is nicely playable, and has a solid wood body (not typical for Chushin), but also has only singlecoil pickups in humbucker housings – a common thing with many Japanese guitars of the era. Of course you can put in real humbuckers any time.

Measurements, weight and other specs:

-     Scale: 628 mm

-     Nut: 42,5 mm

-     Pickups: two unbranded singlecoils in humbucker-housings, both measuring at about 4,3 kOhm. Standard SG-style control layout.

-     Weight: 3,3 kg

-     Body: likely solid mahogany with a maple top

-     Neck: likely mahoganey neck with an ebony fretboard, vintage narrow and low frets, slim neck profile.

Condition:

-     Body: good condition, some dings and dongs especially on the lower bout.

-     Neck: straight neck with functional truss rod. The frets show some tiny crevasses and have been polished – condition 8/10. A few buzzy areas, but no fretting out on the fretboard.

-     Hardware: fully functional

-     Originality: all original state except for the trussrod cover and the Bigsby arm. Not sure about the pots – it has 500k pots, common for Japanese guitars of the time.

Sound and Playability:

-     Playability and string action: The guitar plays easily with a string action of 1,8 mm at the 12th fret (high strings).

-     Sound: Please check out the video for a sound reference. It is a twangy, airy singlecoil sound.

Repairs, Service:

-     Extensive polishing and cleaning of all parts.

-     Fretboard cleaned, frets polished, fretboard oiled

-     Neck set straight

-     New Pyramid all nickel 10 gauge strings put on

-     Ready to be played (just tune it up)

Auxiliary stuff:

-     No case included. It will be wrapped well, and put into a sturdy cardboard box with lots of filler material.

Please note that I will only take the item back entirely, but not grant any reduction of price and generally only accept returns if the item was unaltered after arrival.
