For sale is Tama Custom Dave Grohl / Nirvana / Them Crooked Vultures Hybrid Drum Kit

This drum kit was put together over many years to recreate the exact drum kit that Dave Grohl played in Nirvana (please note this is not his actual drum kit but the same exact Tama model drums that made up his original kit)

Due to his iconic drum sound he got out of this very model it proved very difficult to get the correct drum sizes in the matching colours. Instead something even cooler happened along the way where it ended up being Dave Grohl Nirvana / Them Crooked Vultures drum mash up.

This kit features the drum sizes Dave Grohl used in both bands while still being the same Tama drums he used in Nirvana.

The kit begins with the Tama Artstar Custom which he used for the In Utero tour and is a 24" x 16". His was Piano Black. The one I am selling came from a recording studio in Los Angeles and is in the rare Titanium finish.
 
The floor tom is also a Tama Artstar Custom 18" x 16" which is the same exact model and finish that Grohl used on the In Utero tour in Piano Black.

 The large rack tom is a Tama Superstar 15" x 14" in a red/ wood finish which was the drum size he used through out Nirvana on his rack tom. They are a hard size to find that is rack mountable. 
 
 The snare drum is a Tama Superstar birch drum which was his live snare drum and for the bulk of recordings used forvthe entire time he was in the band. A legendary snare. This completes the Nirvana set up of the drum kit.

Then in Them Crooked Vultures he opted for a 13" x 9" rack tom so I went with a Tama Superstar tom in natural which matches the snare.

 He then complimented this with a 16" x 16" extra floor tom. Here I opted for a Tama Granstar in piano black to match the other tom. The Granstar model Tama's were also played by Grohl in Nirvana so it fits in well.

 The drum sound you can get with this is phenomenal, all those classic Grohl sounds are there and it is an absolute joy to play this kit. With all the configurations available it is very versatile. Top level Tama hardware was chosen with Tama Road Pro high end cymbal boom stands, Tama Road Pro snare stand with the extra roller ball angle ability, and a two leg Iron Cobra glide hi hat stand with glide. Amazingly the kit still retains it's original Tama front skin with a Titanium colour to the writing. The whole thing looks and sounds absolutely stunning. The overall condition is very good, with some slight marks or scratches here or there. The bass drum is missing one screw on the inside which could be easily replaced. The 15" tom has some more roadworn scratches on the front as does the smaller tom but it is all in great shape. One of the counterweights from the Cymbal boom stands is missing but again could easily replaced if necessary. The drum skins are the same ones Dave Grohl uses in the present day which are Coated Ambassadors on the batter and Weatherking clears on the resonant side. The kit also comes with the DW 9000 kick drum pedal that Grohl used in Nirvana  and the DW bag.

Somebody is going to have a lot of fun with this kit and is great for stage and studio. The drum finishes look great together and there is something cool and unique about the mixed finishes and the way you can have two black drums on the left and two natural drums on the right. The photos show some of the other fun configurations from Them Crooked Vultures, to the classic Nirvana set up, to a mix of the both.
