Vox AC30CCH Custom Classic Tube Amp Head, Psionic JMI+ Mods, Mercury Tone Clone Transformer

Up for sale, a Vox AC30CCH Custom Classic head, fully upgraded by Psionic Audio with their JMI+ Custom Voicing package. This Vox head was engineered to capture a range of iconic British Invasion sounds, with incredible cleans and the sweet, overdriven sizzle of EL84 power tubes. The amp has been fully upgraded by Psionic to more faithfully replicate golden age JMI specifications. Upgrades include a Mercury Magnetics Tone Clone output transformer, 1 watt metal film resistors, premium Sozo and silver mica capacitors, and circuit rewiring to replicate the signal path of a 1964 AC30.

Two blendable channels feature fully variable Tremolo, with a custom EQ switch on the Top Boost channel, and a Brilliant switch on the Normal channel. The Spring Reverb has a Dwell switch and Tone control, plus an Effects Loop with full Bypass and Level control ensure optimal tonal flexibility. Further features include a 1965 vs 1967 switch for two distinct voicings, plus switchable smoothing filter values for a looser or tighter feel.

The enclosure shows some modest wear on the edges of the black basketweave tolex, and the original brown diamond lattice grillcloth is intact. Plastic parts include the original two-point corners, Vox-branded SBU handle, and raised gold Vox logo on the amp's face.

Features of the Psionic upgrade include:

• Changing the circuit to that of a '64 JMI AC30
• Upgrading audio resistors to 1W metal films
• Upgrading power resistors to 1W or higher metal films/metal oxides
• Upgrading signal path capacitors with Sozo and silver mica capacitors (JMI appropriate)
• Upgrading the screen and grid resistors on the power tubes to run modern EL84s at a slightly lower current for longer tube life and less heat (no audible change)
• Making the amp less bright and more pedal friendly (applies to both the Top Boost and the Normal channels)
• Fixing the effects loop so it does not lose low end
