Fender Custom Shop Mark Kendrick Masterbuilt 1962 Stratocaster in Tobacco Sunburst

This is a gorgeous Custom Shop Stratocaster from Masterbuilder Mark Kendrick, built in 2007. Mark is one of the Custom Shop’s best luthiers making guitars for Eric Clapton amongst others.

It’s modelled on a 1962 Stratocaster and has a gorgeous authentic medium relic which gives it that played in feel. It’s light, resonant and snappy to play.

There’s some beautiful lacquer checking on the finish which I’ve tried to show in the photos.

The pick ups are hand wound by Abigail Ybarra. If you don’t know who she is just Google her. Her pickups are so highly regarded and sought after but she’s retired now and not making them anymore so they’re really hard to come by. She wound pickups for Fender from 1957 to 2013 so she was there at the beginning!

There is some darkening of the lacquer on the back of the neck around the 2nd/3rd frets which I’ve shown in the photos. This is not part of the original reliccing and comes from play wear.

The frets are solid with plenty of life left in them.

I bought this guitar new from Coda Music in the UK in 2007 and I’ve had it since then. It’s been well taken care of and never modded in any way.

I can’t speak highly enough of this guitar. This is as close as you’ll get to a real 62 without spending £20k. Any inspection welcome. Come and play it if you’re serious about buying it.
