My top gear picks
Three absolute essentials I recommend.
Neve 1073
I came up in the recording world at the famed EastWest studio where they have a Neve 8028. Having 40 channels of 1073 pres at my disposal was the ultimate flex for drum recording. With a fat punchy low end and the crisp tight high end, the 1073 sets the standard for all mic pres.
UA 1176
This compressor is the go to for all my vocal recording as well as a standard for drum compression. It has a variable attack and release making it perfect for just about any source.
UA LA-2A
When the 1176 isn’t right for the job, the La2a is usually my next choice. It’s perfect for bass and vocals and has a smooth even tone to its compression.
