About this listing
Olivia's Vintage would like to present this 1988 Guild Artist Award in a rare and beautiful orange sunburst finish and stunning flame maple back and sides. It is a one owner guitar that is all original. The tuning buttons are the Grover Imperial style, but the original pearl buttons are also included. It plays extremely well up and down the fretboard with great action and no buzzing on any of the frets. It is acoustically loud and resonant with really nice sustain, and the factory humbucker sounds amazing. The original owner of this top of the line Guild owned a music store for around 30 years, and while he was a Guild dealer, took a trip to the Guild factory in Rhode Island sometime in 1989. While in the factory, he saw this neck separated from the body and inquired about the guitar. The story we received was that this was an Artist Award specially made by Kim Walker for Scott Chinery. Then, when the guitar was being shipped to Scott Chinery, it was damaged in shipping, causing the neck to be detached from the body, as well as about a 6 inch vertical crack on the front, bass side lower bout, about 3/4" from the edge. After inquiring about the guitar, Guild agreed to repair and reassemble the guitar, and sell it to him as basically a factory second. It is such a great guitar that he decided to keep it up until now. Aside from the nearly undetectable crack on the top, there are no cracks, breaks, or repairs. The lacquer and some of the paint around the heel has flaked off. This has happened around the seams of the neck as well. It is, however, stable. The binding has started to separate from the fretboard slightly from around the 11th fret to the base of the neck. That is stable as well. This is an exceptional Artist Award with little playwear that comes with the original case.We are happy to ship internationally.
