Made in 1996, here we have an American Standard Stratocaster in brown sunburst color. Weighing in at a very manageable 3.5kg or 7.8 lbs, this model features a commemorative "50 Years of Excellence" sticker on the back of the headstock. Othere than that, there are no noticeable differences from the regular American Standard model.
The Standard at the time was designed for modern players, with a classic combination of an alder body, a maple neck, 22 medium jumbo frets, and block saddles with a the two-point tremolo system. Controls consist of 3 knobs for master volume, Neck tone, middle & bridge TBX tone, and 5-way selector switch. TBX is an acrynym for Treble Bass Expander and in Fender's words does the following: “This detented, stacked 250k/1 Meg control enhances your tonal palette without the use of a battery. From 0 to 5, the TBX is your standard tone control, but once you pass 5 you start to decrease the resistance, which allows more bass, treble, presence and output to flow to your amp.”
The pickups are original to the guitar and as the pots date to 1995 it's reasonable to assume the entire electronic assembly is also original.
The neck is straight in with its C profile, extremely comfortable to play. Additionally, the frets remain robust and the entire guitar is dialled in after an in-house set up and functioning as it should.
Cosmetically there are some minor scratches near the 14 fret at the back of the neck, repaired screw holes at the input jack, surface scratches to the plastics and some minor corrosion or dulling to the metal work in places. There is also a small circular chip out of the finish on the front of the body toward the lower bout (see photos) along with some minor scratches and marks here and there.
Comes with the original moulded hard case, back plate, 2 x tremolo arms, manual & hang tag.
