1968 Yamaha SG-2C Flying Banana Guitar Nippon Gakki (MIJ)
Warning: not for those who like to play sitting down. Released alongside the SG-5A and SG-7A series of guitars in the late 60s, the SG-2C (and SG-3C for the 3 pickup version) is a super fun, super quirky and super rare offering from Yamaha Nippon Gakki which was manufactured for an extremely limited time. Whilst the Flying Samurai shape continued to be produced and then reissued in the early 2000s, the Flying Banana shape was a single run and never produced again.
That being said, this is about the coolest looking guitar you could hope for. This particular one is the most desirable of Flying Bananas because it is in fact ... banana yellow. It features a Bigsby spring style tremolo, short scale agility with a 0 fret system and a dual set of original Yamaha single coils.
In great all original condition, this guitar has been professionally setup and serviced and is playing nicely with a medium/low action. Truss is healthy and responsive and the pickup and electronics sound great. Being a 55 year old guitar, there is the expected amount of wear and tear in the form of dents, chips and some small hairline cracks. All is honest wear however and the guitar sounds great and plays beautifully. Frets have plenty of life at around 80% and the guitar comes with a non-original gig bag.
