The relative obscurity of Neptune NJ's post punk innovator David Maines proves how timing is everything. I remember seeing his band 'The Dave Maines Experience' around in the budding original music scene of the early 80's. 'Become Yourself, Your current and honest non safe self'.
That was the message, and I was getting it.
Dave played wicked good Bass and he worked at Kramer Guitars in the Neptune factory. He made the weirdest and greatest guitars (probably using some borrowed parts) All this great madness happened long before the web, which has unfortunately buried this history somewhat. We played the same clubs and little festivals for ten years. Some amazing bands are on cassettes in basements from the Post vinyl pre indie CD days.
I know he made the uglies for a few years but this appears to be the only one that's surfaced so far.
Everything on the DM UglyStik Blister is top notch. The Ebony neck and deluxe frets feel better than any guitar I've played. Schaller tuners keep it all tight. The thing is solid feeling, medium weight and will not go out of tune even with major thrashing.
The vintage Humbucker pickup is loud and clear with amazing detail.
The only thing is the active circuit. We lost a couple cold solder joints and I'm sick of trying to figure out where the leads go back. It worked great before then and you can hear it here;
The active circuit takes two 9volts and needs to be tweaked the non active and split coil still works great.
The person who takes this one will likely be the right person I believe. Or know someone who is. If your really that guy and plan on playing this live but need a break on the price, please make an offer.
Thanks, Mike
