Manuel Contreras I was born in 1928 in Madrid. He began at the José Ramirez workshop in 1959 till 1962 when he opened his own workshop in Madrid.
He is known for its diverse guitar designs, always looking for the perfect sound. He started to develop this special construction in 1974, the model “Doble tapa”, in order to achieve more volume and sound projection. The success in the guitar world gave him right! In the mid-1980’s Contreras I started to work together with his son Manuel Contreras II and to develop new guitar models. This guitar was built in 1995 and is one of this “Doble tapa” models made by Manuel Contreras II. The top is made of spruce. Back and sides are made of Amazonas rosewood (Dalbergia spruceana). On the back there is a so called “resonador” to prevent the direct contact of the back and the player. The finish has some craquele on the top. The tuning machines are made by Fustero. Including hardshell case.
