BOSS HM-2W Heavy Metal - A Legend Reborn
Originally produced from 1983 to 1991, the HM-2 Heavy Metal was one of the first true "amp in a box" pedals, its innovative circuit designed to replicate the sound of early '80s British stack amps at the height of the heavy metal boom. Near the end of its production run, seminal Swedish death metal bands adopted it as their primary tone weapon, and the pedal's ferociously aggressive character - all focused mids and compressed, saturated grit - became the most sought-after distortion sound of a generation. The HM-2W is BOSS's response to years of devotion from fans worldwide, bringing that icon back in a premium Waza Craft edition.
In Standard mode, the HM-2W delivers the original HM-2's tone and response with 100% authenticity. Crank every knob to maximum and you have the defining sound of Swedish death metal at your feet; dial things back and you'll find a surprisingly wide tonal range suitable for everything from mainstream hard rock to shoegaze. Modern improvements keep the sound intact while reducing the noise floor and expanding the maximum output level by 3dB — refinements that enhance the experience without touching the character that made the HM-2 a legend.
Switch to Custom mode and the HM-2W offers a variation on that same voice, but with more of everything. The drive stage gains additional headroom and retains more of the fundamental guitar signal for enhanced attack and sharpness, while the low-end and high-mid characteristics are specially tuned to add further fullness and definition. It's the HM-2 taken one step further — ideal for players who need maximum sonic impact on stage or in the studio. The mode switch has been repositioned to the top of the unit to keep the classic four-knob control layout - DIST, COLOR MIX H, COLOR MIX L, and LEVEL - completely faithful to the original.
