This compact harpsichord is a, versatile, five-octave 1x8', 1x4' + buff transverse spinet with uniquely guided wood jacks. It was built around the middle of the last century, by the British builder John Paul (1920-1991). The case and trestle stand are made from fine English woods and veneers, and the workmanship is outstanding. The longest length is 5 feet, 8 inches, width is 42 inches, and height of the body is 9 inches. The trestle is separate.
It was professionally restored by Ed Kottick in 2008, and converted from leather plectra to Celcon at that time. Ed Kottick is a leading expert on the harpsichord and the author of three widely read books on the subject. He is a retired musicology professor at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa and an experienced harpsichord builder. There are some blemishes on the lid of the harpsichord. Two strings are broken and the top key (F) jack is broken. After it was restored in 2008 it was a wonderful instrument but it has been sitting unplayed for a couple of years now and needs a bit of fine tuning to get it back to its previous state. I am listing it as being in fair condition and priced for a quick sale at $1,000. I would prefer a local pick-up but if that is not possible shipping can be negotiated.
