This Mosrite Gospel is exceptionally rare with only 100 ever made. The guitar also comes with a certificate of authenticity, tag and a Mosrite Gospel case, which has the Gospel logo on the side of it. This is was on the nicest most well made guitars we have ever played. The german carves, the components, the finish, and the wood have all been carefully constructed by master craftsmen and you can really tell but the beautiful feel of the neck and the incredible sound. The slim neck profile is identical to Johnny Ramone's 1965 Mosrite guitar and feels fantastic in the hands and has a powerful tone and kicks out a phenomenal punch with the twin humbuckers. These Mosrite guitars were officially made Mosrite of California and originally sold via Ed Roman's guitars in Las Vegas. Sadly no more have been produced since 1999 which makes this guitar beyond rare and highly sought after.
This Mosrite Gopspel features a three way pick up selector switch so you can either have the bridge or neck pick up only or both on together. It has uniquely cool looking control knobs for volume and tone. The bridge is a classic Mosrite of California bridge with the tremolo arm removed. This is the way it came from factory as it was the way Kurt Cobain's Mosrite Gospel was. It has a gorgeous three tone sunburst fade and also on the neck which looks stunning from both the back and the sides. The neck has the distinct Mosrite curve where it bends back at quite a steep angle and the headstock and looks awesome. It has the distinct Gospel logo on the headstock and very smooth and sturdy vintage style tuners. The other distinctly cool Mosrite feature this Gospel has is a metal nut sadle and the 1st fret directly underneath which looks very cool. It is also a low serial number KC006 which is inlayed into the guitars top 22nd fret. The guitar has an Alder body, with a maple neck and a rosewood fretboard, the Gospel reissue did not come with a truss rod cover or the end of the tremolo arm as standard. The approximate measurements of the guitar are as follows, the neck width at the nut is 39.60mm / 1.559", the neck is 19.85mm / 0.7815" deep at the first fret and 22.04mm / 0.868" deep at the 12th fret. It has a thin C shape profile with a 9.5" fretboard radius. The frets are 2.73mm / 0.1075" wide and 1.19mm / 0.047 deep. The guitar weighs approximately 3.740KG.
Kurt Cobain's Mosrite Gospel's was said to be one of his favourite guitars which he acquired in 1990 shortly before the second leg of the Bleach tour and he used his for many appearances, and perhaps most famously at the Motor Sports Garage gig in Seattle, which was featured on Nirvana 'With the Lights Out' Box set and also in the bonus clip after the credits where the band is filmed at rehearsal shortly before recording Nevermind performing 'On a Plain'. Another great video of Kurt Cobain playing his Mosrite Gospel is on tour in the UK on the 25/10/90 at Leeds Polytechnic when Kurt starts the set with his White Fender Strat then switches to the Mosrite after a few songs in for 'Lithium'. Unfortunately Kurt ran into hard times and was forced to sell it to a Pawn shop, a decision he would ultimately regret when the Nevermind royalties were to come in the not too distant future. His Mosrite Gospel sold for $117,500 in 2004 at the Dallas Guitar show. The guitar now resides at the Experience Music Project in Seattle and forms a centre piece of the exhibit.
A highly elusive and wondrous guitar that seldom come around, the Mosrite Gospel is a holy grail guitar and not just by its namesake.
