1970s GIBSON RB-250 5-STRING BANJO

A classic post-war banjo, built by Gibson between 1970 and 1972 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA (serial number 738289 on the back of the peghead).

Mahogany neck and resonator, black-lacquered plywood shell with a flathead tone ring, two-piece flange (tube and plate), clamshell tailpiece, and armrest with Gibson engraving. The metal parts are largely original; here and there, there may be a hook or nut from a later period. One resonator mounting screw was also replaced a long time ago. The tuners for the B and G strings were also replaced with Keith tuners. Capo spikes are located at the 7th, 9th, 10th, and 12th frets.

Scale length 67 cm, nut width 30 mm, head diameter 11"

The banjo has been played extensively but is still in good condition. There are a few scratches (a larger one on the back of the resonator) and scuff marks (especially on the peghead), as well as some patina. The tuners work very well, the frets are still in excellent playing condition, and the string action is wonderfully low.

The instrument sounds and plays exactly as it should, with the typical Gibson sound and attack. The banjo comes in its original, though clearly well-used, Gibson case.
