H N White King Vintage 1920s C Melody Saxophone Silver Made in the USA

This King C Melody saxophone was made by H.N. White in Cleveland, Ohio and introduced around 1916-1920. This was the most popular saxophone to play if you were an amateur. The C Melody was very "user-friendly" and could be played without complicated transposition of sheet music.

The C melody saxophone is a tenor saxophone pitched in the key of C, one whole step above the B-flat tenor saxophone. Since 1930, only saxophones in the key of B-flat and E-flat (originally intended for use in military bands and wind ensembles) have been produced on a large scale.

A C melody saxophone is larger than an alto and smaller than a tenor. When seen in profile, its shape bears some resemblance to a tenor saxophone, though it is smaller and the bell appears longer.

This sax came in to The Farm on trade, and is sold as-is. It does not come with the case or mouthpiece. It has leather pads, and they appear dry. The serial number on the neck is different than the serial number on the sax body.

Serial number dating research shows this sax was produced between 1915 and 1924, with serial number 568##.
