This week's Find of the Week is a drum machine that'll make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside: it's a Roland CR-68 with a customized zebra stripe finish.
Roland introduced the CR-68 in 1978 alongside its big brother, the CR-78, and the two analog rhythm machines share the same sound set and rhythm patterns. Although the former lacks the latter's ability to program patterns, it still comes equipped with breaks, fills, accents, and a balance knob that can spread its sounds in stereo.
According to the UK-based seller, this particular CR-68 belonged to a certain Bobby Bigwood of the band The Bigwoods. The listing claims he was a "disco legend popular in the south of England during the early 70s", but further research revealed that his calypso-influenced band was a fixture on the nascent Caribbean cruise trade. Regardless of the provenance, the drum machine's zebra-striped finish appears straight out of The Love Boat.
The CR-78 is powered with a UK plug, and though it's missing the cap for the 'Slow Rock' preset, the button itself still works. Other than that, this zebra hasn't changed its stripes: be sure to check out the full listing for more photos and information, and buy this furry beast of a beat machine today.
