Here is a truly amazing guitar and piece of music history!
This incredibly rare guitar is new to the market after 30 years of residing in a private collection.
This Kramer was built by legendary luthier Billy “Falcon” Connolly in the Kramer Custom Shop for Eddie Van Halen in late 1984. This guitar is constructed with a custom Baretta body, as evidenced by the lack of tremolo cover screw holes, and the “shelf” inside the tremolo cavity.
This guitar is completely original, with its 6 bolt neck plate, created to provide Ed with increased neck stability during live performances. This neck has the unique aluminum side dot fret markers, also exclusive to 1984. Neck features the tilted headstock, and luthier scarf joint, which Kramer transitioned to briefly in late 1984-1985, before transitioning to the “pointy” headstocks in 1986.
Frets and fretboard are in original condition, with the exception of fretboard cleaning presumably done by Connolly at the time of the headstock repair. All electronics, including the input jack, wiring, pot, capacitor, and pickup are original, as well as the Floyd Rose tremolo & tremolo bar, locking nut, claw & springs, and Schaller (W. Germany) tuners. Original grey adhesive tape for guitar picks remains on the guitar.
Regarding playability, it has a fast, very comfortable neck, and plays effortlessly with incredible tone. It has a powerful, full sound with great articulation and harmonic accessibility.
Provenance: Sometime between 1984-1989, this guitar suffered a crack at the headstock and was sent back to Kramer for repair. Billy Connolly completed the repair, which remains completely stable. Billy Connolly ended up with this guitar in his possession until 1990. The previous owner acquired this guitar from Billy Connolly in January, 1990, and possessed this guitar in its original condition for the past 30 years.
The rarity and historical significance of this instrument is representative of the monumental impact that Eddie Van Halen has had on guitar playing and music for over 40 years. While we all know Eddie’s tone lies within his fingertips, one of the Master’s “tools” can now be yours.
Buyer will have 24 hours to inspect instrument, and return if desired, at buyer’s expense.
