Electric and Acoustic Tones The SE Custom 24 Semi-Hollow Piezo retains the core specifications of the Custom 24, PRS's flagship model introduced in 1985, while incorporating a semi-hollow body to produce a more acoustic resonance and organic sound. In addition to the single-coil sound achieved via the push/pull tone knob coil tap, this model features a piezo system co-developed by LR Baggs and PRS, allowing a single guitar to cover both electric and acoustic sounds and produce a sophisticated, versatile tone. This model features separate volume knobs for the magnetic and piezo pickups, as well as two output jacks (Mix/Piezo and Magnetic). When connected to the Mix/Piezo jack, you can blend the sounds of the magnetic pickup (85/15S) and the piezo pickup. Additionally, when using the two output jacks, you can send the magnetic pickup's sound to an amplifier and the piezo pickup's sound to an acoustic amplifier or (via a DI) to a PA system independently.* When using the magnetic pickup jack alone, the piezo pickup battery is completely bypassed, so you can continue to use the magnetic pickup even if the battery runs out. The SE Custom 24 Semi-Hollow Piezo, which enables versatile sound creation, is a model designed to meet the wide-ranging needs of guitarists. About the PRS SE Development began when legendary guitarist Carlos Santana?who had been using PRS guitars as his main instruments since around 1982?proposed the idea of creating a guitar that students could afford, yet still experience the high quality of PRS. This led to the release of the first SE model, the Santana SE, in 2001. Consequently, the SE series is an abbreviation for Student Edition and Santana Edition. Following numerous upgrades and quality improvements, the SE series has evolved beyond being merely a budget option. It is now regarded as a guitar of such high quality that it is described as a guitar that can actually be used in professional settings, establishing itself as a series that expands the appeal and options of PRS Guitars. Production of the SE series began in Indonesia in 2019, resulting in even higher quality than the previously Korean-made SE series, and today, there are even collectors dedicated to the SE series. While there are differences in wood quality, finishes, and parts compared to PRS guitars made in the USA, PRS headquarters frequently dispatches engineers to provide direct guidance. As a result, the production line now follows the same manufacturing processes as the USA factory. The woods and parts specifically prepared and developed for the PRS SE series have been optimized with the goal of how to achieve the best sound quality while keeping costs down, and as a result, the specifications evolve and improve year after year. This reflects the philosophy of guitar craftsman Paul Reed Smith, just as in the U.S.-made models, and this is the very essence and appeal of PRS guitars. PRS SE Finish and Design PRS features beautifully carved arched shapes, stunningly gorgeous wood grain, and well-balanced cutaways and headstock designs. While paying homage to vintage guitars, the aesthetic beauty of each series?presented as PRS's new interpretation?possesses a level of beauty and coolness that other brands simply cannot replicate. The finish and color schemes further enhance these magnificent designs. While the PRS SE series uses polyester/urethane finishes, guitars with flame or quilted tops are colored using a technique called stain application before the topcoat is applied, to make the wood grain stand out even more. This technique, representative of PRS, involves applying a specially formulated dye directly to the wood using a cloth or similar tool, making the grain stand out more prominently. Of course, since the wood naturally has its own variations in tone, the finish isn't uniform across the entire surface; however, the fact that the grain appears distinctly prominent compared to other brands is a hallmark of PRS.
