This guitar was brought to us by the original owner. It was his first guitar, and he definitely treated it much better than most of us treated our first!
The guitar is remarkably clean and is 100% original. It plays very well compared to others I've found. These aren't the kind of guitars you can completely and perfectly dial in like some vintage guitars, but they are very useable and this one is a stand out for sure. It is all original with with the exception of a changed pot and nut - the original parts are in the case. Frets show plenty of remaining life.
Included is an Epiphone hardshell case.
Univox produced a wide range of guitar models, and some of them had limited production runs or are less well-documented compared to their more popular models. They were typically manufactured in Japan and aimed at offering affordable alternatives to the more expensive American-made guitars.
The Univox U1825 guitar follows the brand's overall aesthetic and design principles of that era, mimicking popular models from Gibson and Epiphone.
While they may not have reached the same level of popularity as some other guitar brands, Univox guitars still found their way into the hands of notable artists. Here are a few musicians who have been associated with Univox guitars:
Kurt Cobain: The late Kurt Cobain, frontman of the influential grunge band Nirvana, was known to have played a Univox Hi-Flier guitar early in his career. The Hi-Flier model, resembling a more affordable version of a Mosrite guitar, gained popularity due to Cobain's association with it.
David Bowie: British rock legend David Bowie was occasionally seen playing a Univox Custom model. Bowie was known for his experimentation and eclectic taste in guitars, and the Univox Custom fit into his diverse collection.
Robby Krieger: Robby Krieger, the guitarist of The Doors, was reported to have used a Univox hollow-body guitar during the late 1960s. The specific model he played is not always specified, but Univox produced a range of hollow-body guitars during that era.
J Mascis: J Mascis, the frontman of the alternative rock band Dinosaur Jr., is known for his preference for vintage and offbeat guitars. He has been seen playing a Univox Hi-Flier in some live performances, contributing to the guitar's cult status among alternative rock musicians.
