In 1929, Martin began producing the OM models, but production was short-lived, as the model was discontinued in 1933. Fortunately, in 1969, Martin revived the OM line, starting with the OM-28. By 1977, Martin allowed dealers to order a special edition OM-45, resulting in the Martin SOM45, with "S" standing for "special edition."

Only 56 SOM45 guitars were produced in 1977, making it a highly rare and unique instrument. These guitars, along with models like the HD-28 and M-38, were among the first Martin guitars to feature scalloped bracing since the mid-1940s, contributing to their distinctive tone and resonance.

This guitar features Indian rosewood back and sides paired with a Sitka spruce top, producing a rich, full-bodied tone with impressive clarity and power. It resonates beautifully, ringing like a bell all the way up the neck. The mother-of-pearl detailing adds a touch of elegance, making it as visually stunning as it is sonically impressive.

The original tuners have been replaced with Martin gold closed-back tuners. Additionally, a piezo pickup and a self-built microphone (likely) have been installed. However, the microphone requires a preamp to function, while the piezo pickup works perfectly when plugged in directly. The guitar comes with a hardshell case and a TFOA passport.
