Up for sale, a 1990 Greco TB1100 "Thunderbird" bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. As its name would suggest, this bass thunders and growls with the best, producing incredible low end thump and power from the nickel covered humbucker pickups. Extremely faithful to the Gibson Thunderbird IV of the early '60s, this bass easily bests any modern Gibson reissue and can truly stand toe-to-toe with the originals in terms of feel and tonal range (a bold statement, but we stand behind it).  Acoustically resonant and as well balanced as a Thunderbird can be, this bass weighs only 9lbs 1oz and the Thomastik flatwound strings help produce a tone that's warm and vibrant, with equal parts low end punch and top end grind. The solid mahogany, set neck construction and vintage style three-point bridge with tailpiece add up to an instrument that sustains endlessly and sounds fantastic. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Thunderbird TB1100 has comfortable action, fresh strings, and solid intonation.

The neck has a medium C profile with a 34" scale length and a nut width that's a full 1 11/16". The frets are in remarkable shape, showing only the light wear to the fret crowns down near the nut, with virtually no wear up the neck and no buzzing or dead spots. On the headstock, the nickel tuning machines with clover buttons turn extremely smoothly and hold pitch well. The face of the headstock is reminiscent of the classic Gibson shape, with a carved, three-dimensional appearance with the lowest tier matching the color of the body, and the upper tier finished in black with the "Greco" truss rod cover.

All of the electronics work as they should, with individual Volume controls for each pickup and a master Tone. The pickups are incredibly faithful to the original Gibson design (not to be confused with Gibson's overwound modern reissues), and these pickups have ideal, balanced output that pushes an amp just hard enough while retaining clarity and a sweet, dynamic character. The bridge pickup reads a robust 9.85k ohms which balances well with the neck pickup at 9.6k. The nickel pickup covers, bridge and tailpiece have very light patina and the two-tone sunburst finish is vibrant and unfaded with a deep, medium brown fading to a deep black on the edges. The knobs are the original amber bonnet knobs numbered 1-11 (yes, this bass actually goes to 11).

Cosmetically, this bass has various small nicks and dings around the edges of the body, mostly near the rear strap button and along the treble side edge. The top, neck and headstock are quite clean and as the photos show, this bass has been very well cared for and looks the part of its USA Gibson counterpart! Few instruments can match the craftsmanship and quality of the Fugijen produced Greco instrument, and here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, the Thunderbird TB1100 is among our favorite Greco models.

The original leather form-fit, padded gigbag is included.
