Not sure if it works , but after searching on forums I realized that I'm not the only one who is not sure if it is dead or not . It has the diode but doesn't require a battery as you can see... It doesn't do anything for me and the diode doesn't flash . Mesa in the 80s had few custom footswitches for their amps : "Read=Lead" , "Red=Rhythm" , "Tremolo" .
