The history of the ukulele is relatively recent. At the end of the 19th century, when Portuguese immigrants landed on the Hawaiian coast they carried only a personal item and a few traditional instruments: the cavaquinho, the machete and the rajao. These small guitars inspired the Hawaiians to create their own interpretation called uku-lele which literally means 'jumping flea'. The name refers to a local musician who is famous for his highly energetic and engaging performances. Later, the Americans adopted the instrument, keeping the name and pronunciation.
Tiki - the creator of the human species
In ancient times, Polynesian magicians known as Tahu claimed that humans were created by the god Tiki, known as the creator of the species or the energy that flows through all creatures in the world. He is symbolised by a wooden statue with long arms, short legs and a fearsome face. It is supposed to ward off evil spirits and guarantee prosperity and safety to its owner.
Tiki Uku
The Tiki Uku emblem that adorns the models in this series was chosen by the Lag luthiers for good reason. It combines the influence of the Tiki idol and the infinite grace of the tiny ukulele.
