Founded in 1859 in Nagoya, Japan, by Masakichi Suzuki, the Suzuki company is still active today.

In the 1880s, Masakichi Suzuki began making instruments such as violins, then mandolins, and opened his first store in 1889.

The company then passed under the management of his descendants, who eventually split it into two separate branches after the Second World War.

The Italian influence, particularly that of luthier Calace, is clearly perceptible in the design of Suzuki mandolins.

This MR-100 concert mandolin was manufactured by Kiso Suzuki in the 1990s.
