Up for sale, a Jerry Jones Neptune Longhorn Bass 6 in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Handmade in the USA as a high quality alternative to the Danelectro catalog guitars of the 1950s and '60s, Jerry Jones instruments capture the fun and unique tonal character of a vintage Danelectro, with the reliability and expert build quality required by today's professional players. Arguably the most iconic design in the Danelectro family, the Longhorn is both elegant and functional, allowing unprecedented access to the entire fretboard. While the original Danelectro model was favored by Nashville studio musicians for its percussive "tic-tac" bass qualities, the Jerry Jones design is equally as tonally pleasing, and great for any genre where a baritone register is desired. Whether its surf, shoegaze, or a Spaghetti Western soundtrack, the hollow twang, cut, and surprising warmth of the Jerry Jones Longhorn Bass 6 make it an ideal choice. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this rare and discontinued six string bass is an incredibly cool instrument, strung with roundwound strings.
The curvature of the body makes this an extremely comfortable instrument to rest on your knee and have in ideal playing position, and at only 6lbs 10oz, it's very easy on the back too! The body construction relies on the tried and true Masonite and poplar hollow body, which adds a certain immediacy to the note attack and also gives a fuller, airy sound on sustained notes. Palm muting at the bridge really brings out the fundamental thump of this instrument as well, with an acoustic resonance that you can feel vibrate through the whole instrument.
Tuned E to E with a 30" scale, this Jerry Jones has a maple neck with a slab Indian rosewood fretboard and pearl dot inlay. The original jumbo frets show virtually no wear, with perfectly rounded crowns and decades of height left. The nut has a full 1 11/16" spacing and is a hand carved piece of bone for optimal sustain and note clarity. The headstock boasts a set of Kluson style nickel tuning machines which hold pitch well and turn smoothly.
The body sports a three-way pickup selector toggle and a pair of Jerry Jones wound Lipstick Tube pickups that are a USA made boutique version of the Danelectro originals, with similar output and all of the classic tone qualities that this pickup style provides. The bridge is an improved yet aesthetically faithful version of the original design, and the compensated rosewood saddle assures accurate intonation. The serial number is inked on the back of the headstock, and while this doesn't indicate the exact year of production, it does make this one of the earliest Jerry Jones instruments, crafted between 1988-1990. Cosmetically, this baritone guitar is extremely clean, with an eye-catching and desirable copper finish. The finish shows some wear down to the bare wood on the headstock edges, as well as a couple extremely faint finish scratches on the back on and around the control plate. Otherwise, this Jerry Jones is clean as can be!
Since Jerry Jones discontinued his entire line of instruments in 2011, his instruments have become instantly collectable and more sought after than ever before. This is especially the case with a rare model like this Neptune Longhorn Bass 6!
The original hardshell case is included.
