I've owned virtually every guitar Prince ever played (Cloud, Love Symbol, Madcat ...etc.) and the VOX HDC-77 model that he played during the the last 6 years or so of his solo career and with 3rdeyegirl is by far my favorite model. It has the best tone, feel, and versatility of any guitar he played. Hands down. This exact guitar was not one that Prince personally owned (just so there's no confusion). He just owned and performed with this model, and this is an original VOX. It's actually the only guitar Prince played that hasn't been extensively copied and ripped off the way that the Madcat, Cloud, and Love Symbol guitars have been. I'm sure that's because every part of this guitar from the bridge to the pick-ups and shape are proprietary and virtually impossible to copy.

The original H.S. Anderson Prince Madcat guitars sell for as much as $12K in good condition. The brand new knock-offs sell for close to $3500.

Seeing as this is the only stock color Prince ever played of the HDC-77 by VOX and that the Madcat (and even NPG Cloud guitars) only originally costed a couple hundred dollars to start and now (as inferior instruments to this VOX) sell for as much as tens of thousands of dollars I think this is a great deal! This guitar is a collector's item as well as an incredible instrument and engineering feat, and it will most likely will go up in value over time since this guitar is the most rare non-custom made guitar that Prince regularly played and is no longer made. It took me 2.5 years to find one for sale. Photos from Paisley Park taken on the 21st April 2016 illustrate that Prince kept his Vox close to him – there was one in his office.

The guitar's designer Rich Lasner personally told me "Prince bought that 1st 77 by walking into his local music store and liking how it looked, played and sounded. His guys contacted me a few months later, asking to buy 10 more. I of course offered to make anything Prince wanted and built him a number of 77s, some with graphic wraps; others with normal finishes. It is still unreal having made the guitar Prince preferred at the end of his life. The Virage started as an idea when I was getting readying to leave Line 6, where I ran the Variax project. My guys and I would take a couple of hours every Friday, head over to my place with pizzas and beer and do "what if" sessions to relieve the tedium of working on modeling guitars. Being a life-long 335 player, I wondered if there was a way to invisibly bend a semi hollow to have the wraparound feel of a Strat. Damned if there wasn't a way."

Comes with the original VOX hard case.

The Vox HDC-77 semi hollow body guitar was introduced in 2010 and includes many of the features and design cues from the Vox Virage guitar series.

The body of the HDC-77 is curved in three dimensions. It not only features a conventional arched top, it is also curved along its length from the heel of the neck to the bottom of the guitar. This concave wrap around design nestles the body of the guitar to the player, and makes the HDC-77 very comfortable to play with a strap or while sitting down.

The sides of the guitar are actually routed from a solid piece of wood. This wooden rim also incorporates two tone bars that attach to the center of the top and back of the guitar. This unique construction technique was originally developed for the flagship Vox Virage guitar.

The all aluminum, micro adjustable Max Connect bridge is fastened to these tone bars for maximum sustain  with minimum feedback.

The neck joint features a contoured heel that allows easy access to the highest frets on the guitar.

Twin CoAxe pickups use a unique technology that allows the guitar to produce both single coil and humbucking tones from a dead quiet twin coil design. Each pickup has a three position tone switch that allows the selection between a biting single coil, a P-90, or traditional humbucking tones.

Cast Super Smooth Vox tuners facilitate a stable tuning environment for the HDC-77.
