Here's a 1988 Desert Sun Yellow model, of course produced in Japan at the FujiGen factory, featuring brightly colored pyramid inlays on its maple fretboard that complement the body and matching headstock. This was the original JEM model, distinguished by the bright yellow or bright pink finish, faded pink DiMarzio pickups and colorful pyramid inlays. 

This era also saw the JEM777V, which replaced the pyramids for vine inlays, and the JEM777LG, which was the first Steve Vai production model (only 777 specimens were produced).
